A 50% deposit is required upon signing our contract for your private boat charter. The final payment is due 10 business days before the event. At that time you can decide on the bar.

Charter Cancellations:
For your private boat charter the total charter amount returned if canceled more than 15 days in advance. Owner will refund 75% of the total charter amount if canceled 14 days in advance of the charter date (half the deposit is returned). Owner will refund 50% of the total charter amount if canceled between14 and 5 days in advance of the charter date (deposit is forfeited).

Charter Weather Policy

Cancellations due to weather are made only by the captain. This decision can be made up until one hour before departure. A full refund or the option to reschedule without penalty is available if the Captain cancels due to weather. If the Charterer wishes to reschedule for any reason with at least a 5 days notice, a 25% rescheduling fee will be applied. If the Charterer wishes to reschedule due to weather predictions or for any reason without the Captain’s accord within 5 days of the event, a 50% rescheduling fee is applied.

Charter Locations

We have two locations: 23 Bowens Wharf in Newport, Rhode Island, 02840, in front of The Landing Restaurant, and 24 Bannister’s in Newport, beside The Black Pearl Restaurant.

Parking Information

Metered parking is limited, and traffic can get very congested in the area. Plan at least 60+ minutes for parking, and more on holiday weekends. There are also several pay lots available, The Gateway Parking Lot, which is a 10-15-minute walk from the boat, is the closest lot. Our confirmation email gives you several other options.

To Know When Chartering a Boat

Inspected Vessels

Each vessel in the Classic Harbor Line fleet is annually inspected and re-certified as an ‘inspected vessel’ by the United States Coast Guard. Each vessel is certified to carry a set number of passengers and a required number of crew plus a United States Coast Guard (USCG) approved licensed captain.

To meet USCG specifications, each vessel has required lifesaving and safety-related equipment, along with regular crew training to use that equipment. Each CHL crew member and Captain are trained in firefighting, bilge system operation, man-overboard procedure, recovery of steerage, safe abandonment of ship, and anchoring on a recurring basis. Additionally, all captains and first mates are trained in First Aid and CPR. Each Captain is additionally reviewed every five years for license renewal and medical certification. Sea time and a series of maritime exams are required for their licenses.

On inspected (or ‘certified’) vessels, passenger limits are determined based on the size and design of the boat and have equipment (including lifejackets) that support that number. We hold very firmly to our certifiable limit and can ensure all our programming is below the legal limit.

Uninspected Vessels

If you are chartering a boat that is not ‘inspected’ by the USCG, the passenger limit is six. Anything more than six is considered “an illegal charter”.
